Session Agendas
Some groups have made their agendas available to better coordinate among multiple meetings.
CSCC is Connected with Your Cloud Customers
Tuesday Keynote, 8:00-8:50am
Room: 1 (Willamette)
Description:
David Harris
David Harris of The Boeing Company and CSCC Steering Committee will review the Object Management Group’s Cloud Standards Customer Council, an end user advocacy group dedicated to accelerating cloud’s successful adoption. He will lead a discussion on the customer view of cloud services and cloud provider topics which resonate most with the user community, providing the DMTF with valuable insight into customer thought leadership. A review of current CSCC deliverables, as well as roadmaps, will be included. How to engage with this important customer-facing organization will be offered to the community at large.
Swordfish: Extending Redfish for Scalable Storage Management
Thursday Keynote, 8:00-8:50am
Room: 1 (Willamette)
Description:
Richelle Ahlvers
The SNIA’s Scalable Storage Management Technical Work Group (SSM TWG) is working to create and publish a new open industry standard specification for storage management called Swordfish. Swordfish defines a customer centric interface for the purpose of managing storage and related data services. Swordfish builds on the DMTF’s Redfish specification using RESTful methods and JSON formatting.
This session will present an overview of Swordfish, including the scope targeted in the initial (V1) release in 2016, as well as the rationale for this effort. It will also highlight how Swordfish leverages and extends existing storage management standards (e.g. SMI-S) as well as the base Redfish specification, and show how the two organizations are working together to deliver tightly coupled standards specifications.
After-hours BoFs and Academic Presentations
Wednesday, 5:00-7:00pm
Room: 1 (Willamette)
Description:
APTS will be holding an after-hours BoFs and academic presentation on Wednesday evening. Academic presentations were solicited from local universities and vetted. The following are currently scheduled.
A limited number of Brew Fest tokens and mugs (first come, first serve) will be given to those who attend!
- BoF: “Extending Redfish to Grids and Clouds” by Alan Sill (Texas Tech)
- Academic Presentation: “Energy-Efficient Cloud Data Center Management” by Mehiar Debbagh, Oregon State University
At the registration desk, there will be a BoF board for any attendee to post other BoF topics they wish to lead, during this time slot. BoFs slots can also be submitted by emailing to apts_registration@dmtf.org.
Energy-Efficient Cloud Data Center Management
Wednesday After-hours BoFs and academic presentations, 5:00pm
Room: 1 (Willamette)
Description:
Mehiar Dabbagh
Energy consumption has become a great deal for cloud service providers due to financial as well as environmental concerns. In this presenta- tion, we propose new resource management techniques that enable automated, energy-efficient allocation of cloud data center resources, thereby reducing en- ergy consumption and hence cutting down on the electricity bills of service providers. Several experiments based on real traces from a Google cluster show that our proposed techniques achieve significant energy reductions and mon- etary savings when compared to state-of-the-art cloud resource management techniques.
